Ngorongoro Crater Travel Tips
Where is Ngorongoro Crater?
-
Ngorongoro Crater is in northern Tanzania, about 180 km west of Arusha. It's a large volcanic caldera in the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and part of the Serengeti ecosystem, known for its stunning landscapes and abundant wildlife.
When is the best time to visit?
-
The best time to visit is during the dry season, from November to February. Wildlife is easier to spot, and roads are more accessible. However, the crater offers great game viewing year-round due to its enclosed ecosystem.
How do I get to the Ngorongoro Crater?
-
Most travellers fly into Kilimanjaro International Airport or Arusha Airport. From Arusha, you can drive (about 3–4 hours) or take a small charter flight to Lake Manyara airstrip, then drive to the crater. Guided safaris usually include transportation.
