CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY

Corporate social responsibility at Beach Safari
Travel connects visitors with places where people live, work and build their future. For Beach Safari, corporate social responsibility means looking beyond the journey itself and contributing to the communities around the destinations where we operate.
Our CSR approach focuses on five areas of community development: education, youth development, community development, entrepreneurial development and health care. We work with established Non-Governmental Organizations and involve travelers in projects where this is appropriate.
These social initiatives are part of a wider approach to responsible tourism that also includes sustainability standards and policies within our operations.
Our approach to community development
Community needs are varied, so our CSR work is organized around five focus areas. Together, they provide a framework for deciding where collaboration, support and local initiatives can contribute.
We do not see these areas as separate from tourism. The people who live in Tanzania and Zanzibar are also the people who guide, welcome and support travelers throughout their journey.
Education
Education is one of the five pillars of our CSR approach. Supporting access to learning and educational opportunities can contribute to longer term community development.
Projects within this pillar are developed with local circumstances and partners in mind rather than through a single approach that is applied everywhere.
Youth development
Youth development focuses on opportunities for younger generations within the communities connected to our operations. This pillar recognizes that long term community development also depends on young people having opportunities to learn, develop skills and participate in their local economy.
Community development
Community development brings attention to the wider needs of the places where we work. Rather than approaching these needs in isolation, Beach Safari collaborates with established organizations and local partners that understand the communities and circumstances on the ground.
Entrepreneurial development
Entrepreneurial development is another focus within our CSR program. Local businesses and initiatives can play an important role in creating income, skills and opportunities within communities.
Our approach is to consider entrepreneurship as part of wider local development rather than treating tourism as separate from the economy around it.
Health care
Health care forms the fifth pillar of our community development framework. Projects and partnerships within this area are approached in collaboration with organizations that can bring relevant local or specialist knowledge.
Working together with local partners and NGOs
Long term community development requires collaboration. Beach Safari therefore works with established Non-Governmental Organizations and local partners rather than assuming that meaningful impact can be created by a travel company alone.
These partnerships help connect initiatives with people who understand local priorities and can contribute relevant experience. They also help us approach projects within a wider community context.
Where appropriate, travelers can also be involved in projects. This creates an opportunity to learn more about the communities behind the destination while contributing through an existing initiative rather than creating a separate activity around visitors.
Responsible tourism goes beyond community projects
Corporate social responsibility is one part of responsible tourism. The way accommodations operate, how people are treated at work and how tourism interacts with the surrounding environment are also relevant.
Within Beach Safari, these subjects are supported through internal policies and independent sustainability assessment in specific parts of the organization.
Travelife and independent sustainability assessment
The sustainability practices of several accommodations connected with Beach Safari are independently assessed through Travelife for Accommodation. Travelife considers environmental and social areas including emissions, biodiversity, human rights, fair labor, child safeguarding and animal welfare.
Travelife recognition applies to specific parts of the operation. It should therefore be distinguished from Beach Safari's community projects and CSR program. The certification provides external assessment, while CSR describes the social initiatives and partnerships that form part of our own approach.
You can find the current Travelife information on our affiliations and certifications page.
Policies behind our approach
Responsible tourism also depends on the policies used within an organization. Beach Safari's current CSR framework includes attention to human rights, a safe and healthy working environment and wider environmental, social and ethical responsibilities.
These policies provide a framework for day to day decisions alongside the community initiatives described on this page.
How travellers connect with local communities
A journey through Tanzania or Zanzibar is not only an encounter with wildlife and landscapes. It also takes place within communities with their own daily life, traditions and local economy.
For Beach Safari, responsible community involvement means treating those communities as part of the destination rather than as a background to the travel experience. Where travelers are involved in community projects or encounters, these should be approached with respect for local people and the organizations involved.
This also means that participation should support an existing initiative rather than turning community development into an attraction in itself.

How CSR connects to your journey
Not every Beach Safari itinerary includes a community project, and we do not suggest that every booking produces the same social outcome. Our CSR work takes place alongside the journeys we organize and reflects our wider responsibility toward the places where we operate.
For travellers, this provides more context about the company behind the trip. You can see which areas our community approach focuses on, how collaboration forms part of that work and how social responsibility connects with wider sustainability standards.
Transparency about our approach
Responsible tourism covers several different subjects, so it is important to distinguish between them. Community projects, internal policies, sustainability certification and professional tourism memberships each provide different information about how Beach Safari works.
This CSR page focuses specifically on our social responsibility and community development approach. External certifications and industry affiliations are separate forms of evidence and should not be presented as if they measure the same thing.

Travel through Tanzania with greater context
The landscapes and wildlife may be what first draw you to Tanzania, but the people behind the journey are equally part of the destination. Guides, lodge teams, local businesses, communities and partner organizations all form part of the wider tourism environment.
